Mr. Kevin Joseph Murphy, 65 of Yarmouthport, formerly of Salem NH and Somerville died on Friday at his home surrounded by his loving family. He is the husband of Colleen (Kennery) Murphy with whom he shared more than 34 years of marriage. Born in Boston, son of the late Francis X. and Marie G. (Porter) Murphy, he is a graduate of Somerville High School, class of 1964. He continued his education earning a Bachelor’s Degree at Salem State College, now University and later earned his Masters Degree in Education from Cambridge College in mid 1980’s. Kevin was a well respected school teacher and was passionate about teaching. He taught within the Somerville Public School System for more than 34 years. He is a Past President of the Somerville Teachers Association and served as such for the 1993-1994 years. He enjoyed playing golf, tennis and sailing. He had a love for coaching drama and was active in teaching it. Following retirement he and his wife would spend time in Florida at their home in Tarpon Springs for 4 or 5 months a year. He was a member of the Son’s of Erin in Yarmouth. As active and involved with his students as he was, nothing gave him more enjoyment than spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter Kerry Bean and her husband Timothy of Haverhill, a son, Patrick Murphy of Salem, NH and is the father of the late Kevin Michael Murphy. Devoted grandfather of Aidan, Colin and Dillon Bean and Richard Roy. Loving brother of Robert Murphy and his wife Barbara of Gloucester, brother in law of Jeanette Murphy of Windham NH, formerly of Medford, wife of the late Paul Murphy. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral from Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., MEDFORD Wednesday at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Catherine Of Genoa Church, 179 Summer Street, Somerville, at 10 AM . Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Tuesday 4 through 8 PM. Services will conclude with burial at Calvary Cemetery, Woburn.
