Obituary

Joan R. (Kinsley) Godding, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, passed into eternal life on Friday, April 13, 2012 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. She was 80 years old.

Joan was born in Boston on November 22, 1931 to the late John and Mary (Meehan) Kinsley. She grew up in Charlestown where she attended St. Mary's Parochial School and graduated from Girls High School. Joan worked for over 25 years as Head Teller for Shawmut Bank in East Boston and after retiring, she worked for 10 years as a Tax Examiner for the Department of Revenue with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. She was a member of The Old Charlestown Schoolgirls Association and The Womens Club of Charlestown. Joan enjoyed visiting Foxwoods and spent quality time knitting Irish knit sweaters.

Joan is the beloved wife of the late James D. Godding. She is the devoted mother of Joan MacDougall and her husband Billy of Charlestown, Jeannie Keady and her husband John of Winchester, Judy Johnson and her husband Tom of Charlestown and Jim "Chipa" Godding and his partner Renie Flannery of Charlestown. She is the loving Narn to James "Macca" MacDougall, Jake and Jeff Keady, Thomas and Matthew Johnson, Jay and Lauren Godding. She is the beloved sister of John Kinsley of Somerville, Sylvia LaMothe of East Bridgewater and the late Mary Mahoney, Hyacinth Butler, Elizabeth Godding, Claire Breen and Louise Sullivan. She is also survived by "The Lovely Ladies of Monument Square". She is the dear friend of Kathy Matz. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Joan's Funeral on Monday, April 16, 2012, at 10 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill Street, Charlestown, followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren Street, Charlestown at 11 a.m. Interment will be private. Visiting hours will be on Sunday, April 15, 2012, from 2 to 6 p.m. in the funeral home.
