Obituary

WILLIAM BRADFORD SPROUT, III, 78, of Hingham, died on Sunday, April 8th, 2012 at the Golden Living Center in Cohasset. Mr. Sprout was born in Boston. He attended Derby Academy in Hingham and Middlesex School in Concord, MA. He graduated from Princeton University in Princeton, NJ, Columbia University in NY and he attended La Sorbonne, Paris, France where he earned a Certificat des etudes francaises. At Harvard University in Cambridge, MA he was a Teaching Fellow in French and English. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War and served overseas in Japan. Mr. Sprout was primarily a language teacher by profession at schools in the greater Boston area and he also taught film and was a staff reporter and Sunday feature writer for The Providence Journal and The Rhode Islander.

Mr. Sprout lived in Europe for five years in France and Germany. While in Paris he was an Assistant d'Anglais in French lycee for three years. An accomplished athlete, he played the European tennis circuit and was highly ranked nationally for two years in France in men's singles and ranked in A Level Bundesliga in Germany. Subsequently, he held national and New England rankings in tennis and squash in the United States.

Son of the late William Bradford Sprout, Jr. and Sybil (Vroom) Sprout, he leaves his sister, Sarah S. Lovett and her husband Bob of Hingham.

The funeral services and interment are to be private. Visiting hours and flowers omitted by request. For those who wish, donations in his memory may be made to the charity of choice.
