Frances Marie McDonald Sartain, age 83, died Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at her home in Water Valley, MS. She was born June 30, 1928 in Water Valley, MS to the late John Henry and Ruth Peacock McDonald. Frances had a strong faith and was a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church of Water Valley where she served as Organist for 35 years. She was a self taught artist and musician, she painted numerous pictures of historical buildings and landmarks in Water Valley, and she enjoyed singing. Frances served as Election Commissioner for Yalobusha County and was owner of Sartain’s Cafe in Water Valley. She enjoyed gardening, was an avid bridge player for over 45 years and she absolutely adored her three daughters, her brother and her grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2012 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley, MS. Funeral services will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Water Valley at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 13, 2012 with Bro. Harold Spraberry and Bro. Jimmy Sartain officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Water Valley, MS with Andy McDonald, Spencer Shields, Penny Shields, Grant Holley, Clay Ashford and Dr. Fred McCullar serving as pallbearers. Jim McDonald and the Elders and Deacons of First Presbyterian Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Frances is survived by her three daughters, Carol (Penny) Shields of Horn Lake, MS, Julie (Fred) McCullar of Water Valley, MS, and Lynda Sartain Pulley of Hernando, MS; one brother, Jim (Sandy) McDonald of Mobile, AL; three grandchildren, Marie (Grant) Holley of Olive Branch, MS, Spencer (Crystal) Shields of Horn Lake, MS, and Salley (Keith) McCullar of Nashville, TN; and six great-grandchildren, Nathan and Bailee Shields, and Brayden, Barrett, Bryant and Blake Holley.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Foster Sartain, Jr.
