Frederick Mulcairns, 96, of Dartmouth died April 10, 2012 at The Oaks Nursing Home after a brief illness.
He was the husband of the late Mary Louise (Collins) Mulcairns.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late James A. and Rose E. (Davignon) Mulcairns, he lived in the Greater New Bedford area all of his life.
He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Dartmouth.
Mr. Mulcairns was formerly employed by the New Bedford Police Department from 1947 to 1978 retiring as Deputy Chief. He served as a prosecutor with the District Attorney's Office in Third District Court from 1968 to 1978.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 1, the New Bedford Police Association and the Massachusetts Police Association. He was a graduate of Holy Family High School.
Mr. Mulcairns served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II in Saipan and the Mariana Islands with the 20th Air Force - 497th Bomb Group.
Survivors include his daughter, Frances Chepren and her husband Jack of Middleboro; a sister, Doris Vaughan of Dartmouth; 8 grandchildren, Darlene (Chepren) Mauretti of Somerset, John Chepren of New Milford, CT, Suzanne (Chepren) Roberts of New Milford, CT, Kathleen Barry-Graber of Canton, MA, Timothy Barry of Stanford, CT, Garrett Barry of Holliston, MA, Monica (Barry) Needles of Abington, MA and Mary (Barry) Tracy of Minnesota; 19 great-grandchildren.
He was the father of the late Marilyn Barry and the brother of the late James Mulcairns.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Friday, April 13th at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church at 10 AM. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Thursday, April 12th from 2-5 PM.
