Obituary

Edward S. Baroody, 90, of New Bedford died Tuesday April 10, 2012 at St. Luke's Hospital surrounded by his family after a brief illness. He was the husband of Georgette Mehenna and the late Bertha Baroody.

Born in Zahle, Lebanon, the son of the late Slayman and Jeannette Baroody, he lived in New Bedford since 1981.

He was a communicant of Our Lady of Purgatory Church.

Mr. Baroody was a employed as a pharmacist who operated his own pharmacy in Lebanon.

In 1958, he received the Medal of Honor from the Lebanese Republic for his humanitarian works.

He enjoyed the company of his family and friends. He was an avid reader. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife; three children, George Baroody and his wife Sylvie of New York, Jane Baroody and her husband Phillip of New Bedford, and Gabriel Baroody and his wife Amal of Dartmouth; a sister, Samia Kashou of Lebanon; four grandchildren, Bertha, Jonathan, Christina and Charbel Baroody; and many nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Catherine, Elias, Mounir, Helen, Claire, and Sara.

His Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 AM in Our Lady of Purgatory Church. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
