Obituary

FALL RIVER… Paul Amable Bernier, 85 of Somerset passed away April 5, 2012 at Charlton Memorial Hospital.
Born April 23, 1926 in Fall River he was a son of the late Joseph A. and Rose A. (Chouinard) Bernier.
Mr. Bernier was a 1944 graduate of Msgr. Prevost High School, Fall River and earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Providence College in 1952. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in WWII. After graduating college Mr. Bernier was an underwriter for the Hartford A & 1 Insurance Company. He began his career in 1953 at The Fall River Herald News as a reporter, eventually working up to City Desk and Line Desk. In 1975 he became Managing Editor, and was promoted to Editor in Chief in 1978 prior to his retirement in 1988. His hobbies included collecting ancient military weapons and military miniatures as an adjunct to his interest in military history. He enjoyed horseback riding, French cuisine, jazz, blues, books, professional football and boxing.
He is survived by his sister Vijali Anctil of East Providence, RI, his brother Normand R. Bernier of Fairlawn, OH; his nieces Nannette M. Gidjunis of Laguna Niguel, CA, Valerie A. Anctil of Newport, RI, and Erica J. Bernier Hockenhull of South Berwick, ME; his nephews Eric P. Anctil of Raleigh, NC, Joseph M. McDonald, Jr. of Swansea, MA, Kristian C. Bernier of Dover, NH; his great nieces Kayleigh M. S. McDonald of Swansea, MA, Mira Hockenhull of South Berwick, ME, Hope E. S. McDonald of Swansea, MA; and his great nephews Elijah Hockenhull of South Berwick, ME and Joshua Bernier of Dover, NH. He was preceded in death by his sister Lucille A. Bernier, his brother Raymond J. Bernier and his longtime companion Jean Judge.
