Whitman – Frances A. (Avery) McPhail 72, of longtime resident of Whitman died Sunday April 8 after a period of failing health. She was the beloved wife of Robert E. McPhail, Sr.
Born in Whitman and raised in Rockland she was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Rena A. (Bennett) Avery and a graduate of Rockland High Class of 1958.
As a resident of Whitman for over 45 years Frances had worked for over 15 years as a packer for the former USM Corporation of Whitman.
She was truly an avid reader, enjoyed playing bingo and was a loyal fan of all the Boston sport teams. However her greatest joy came from the time spent with her family and following the many sporting events of her much-loved grandchildren.
In addition to her husband Robert she is survived by her children Robert E. McPhail, Jr. and his wife Sherry of Pembroke, Karen Hunter and her husband Jerry of Whitman, Scott McPhail and his partner Charles Westerfield of Florida and Shawn McPhail of Whitman, and her brother James Avery of Whitman, and her sister Shirley Azevedo of East Bridgewater. She is also survived by her grandchildren whom she adored Joshua, Brandon, Amanda, Jared and Shawn, her great grandchildren Michael, Nathan and Travis as well as several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late William and Edward Avery, Beatrice Borges, Gladys Derochea and Dorothy Coombs.
Her funeral service will be held Thursday April 12 at 11:30 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow at 2:30 PM in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday April 11 from 4-8 PM.
