BEVERLY: John “Jack” Bresnahan, 84, died Friday, March 30, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Margaret “Peggy” (Goodwin) Bresnahan.
Born in Beverly on April 14, 1927, he was the son of the late William and Doris (Bisson) Bresnahan. A lifelong resident of Beverly, he was a graduate of Beverly High School class of 1945. Jack was also a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He served in the Pacific Theater on occupation duty and was honorably discharged in March 1947.
Jack was employed as a printer for the Salem News and the former Beverly Times for many years before retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Boston Typographical Union and the V.F.W. Post #7608 in Georgetown.
He was a well known baseball player, having played on numerous teams on the North Shore in the 1940’s and 1950’s. He also loved to play golf and was an avid gardener. His gardens were admired by many.
In addition to his wife of forty-four years, he is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Convicer of Beverly; four grandchildren, Aliza, Jacob, Andrew and Noah Convicer; a sister-in-law, Margaret Carrier and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by three brothers, William “Billy”, Paul “Heck” and Karl Bresnahan and a sister, Martha Taylor.
A celebration of his life will be held on his birthday, Saturday, April 14th in St. John the Evangelist Church, New Balch St., Beverly at 1 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the “Jack Bresnahan Scholarship Fund,” c/o Patty Smith at Salem Five Bank, 89 Pleasant St., Marblehead, MA 01945.
