Joan A. Mims, 87, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Saturday, April 7, 2012, at the Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald.
Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Sunday, April 8, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Royce Hulett officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Saturday evening at the funeral home.
Mrs. Mims was born January 16, 1925 in Lowestoft, England, to Arthur C. and Annie Bickers Greengrass. Meeting her husband in England during World War II, she was a member of the British Wives Club of Fitzgerald. She was a former employee of Fitzgerald Mills and was retired from Fitzgerald Underwear and Berlin Corporation where she was a seamstress. Mrs. Mims was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and attended Oakland Baptist Church in Hazlehurst. She enjoyed flower gardening, working in her yard and shopping at flea markets and yard sales.
She is survived by her children: Rodney and Lynne Keegan of Port Dover, Ontario, Carol Ann and Royce Hulett of Hazlehurst, GA, Cora Lee and Les Simmons of Tifton, GA, Dale and Donna Mims of Franklin, GA and Jeffery Mims of Fitzgerald, GA; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister: Irene Spooner of England; step children: Freddie Mims and Ronnie Bowater. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hoke Smith Mims, a brother and a sister.
