John J. McCarthy

...of Tewksbury, Union Plumber; 78

TEWKSBURY - John J. McCarthy Jr., 78, died Friday morning, Feb. 22, at his home after alengthy illness. He was the husband of Mary E. (McKenna) McCarthy, who died in 1982.

He was born in Somerville, December 13, 1923, a son of the late John J. and Bridget (Lovett)McCarthy Sr. He was raised in Somerville and graduated Somerville High School.

He enlisted into the U.S. Navy during WWII, and served in the South Pacific aboard the U.S.S.Muskateen.

Upon honorable discharge from Navy, he became a plumber and joined the Plumbers and GasFitters Local 12 in Boston. He retired in 1985.

He was a communicant of St. William’s Church, and had been a member of the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks Lodge 2070.Mr. McCarthy enjoyed televised sports and was a fan of crossword puzzles.

He is survived by five daughters and four sons-in-law, Elizabeth and John Poisson of York, ME,Eileen and Joseph Burbage Jr. of Townsend, Kathleen McCarthy of Tewksbury, Patricia andFrederick Rohdenburg of Lawrenceville, GA, Mary and Francis McGee of Kingsland, GA, threesons and daughters-in-law, Jeremiah and Dawn (Belida) McCarthy of Raleigh, NC, John J. andLisa (Swan) McCarthy III of Woburn, Terence and Kristine (Rousseau) McCarthy of Plaistow,NH, two brothers, Daniel McCarthy of Del., Jeremiah McCarthy of GA, one sister Eileen Hughesof Peabody, 14 grandchildren, Caryn Poisson of Portsmouth, NH, Alissa Poisson of York, ME,Sarah and Joseph Burbage III of Townsend, Rebecca and Abigail Rohdenburg of GA, Alison,Julie and Brian McCarthy of Woburn, Devin, Ryan, and Colin McCarthy of Plaistow, NH,Shannon and Sean McGee of GA, and many nieces and nephews.

His Funeral Mass was held Tuesday, Feb. 26, . in St. William’s Church. Burial was in St.Mary’s Cemetery, No. Tewksbury.
