TEWKSBURY, MA: William J. Gendrop, Jr., age 45, died Tuesday, April 13, 2004 at the Tewksbury Hospital, following an extended illness.
Born in Mexico City, Mexico on November 26, 1958, he was the son of the late William J. Gendrop, MD and Sylvia (Welch) Gendrop, Ph. D..
Mr. Gendrop was educated in Newton and Natick schools. After receiving his G.E.D in 1979, he attended the former Boston State College (U.Mass-Boston)and the University of Anahuac in Mexico City, Mexico.
In earlier years, he worked as a stock manager at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Wellesley College. Mr. Gendrop was previously employed by Allison Acoustics, Inc. of Natick, where he assisted in all aspects associated with the production of home stereo speakers.
In 1998, following being diagnosed with Huntington’s disease, he recieved his care at the Tewksbury Hospital.
An accomplshed athlete, Mr. Gendrop enjoyed sailing, karate, rebuilding and repairing automobiles, weight training and jogging. He successfully completed the Boston Marathon in 1978 and 1979 and received his orange belt in Kempo Karate in 1980.
Mr. Gendrop participated in the basketball Special Olympics held at the Tewksbury Hospital and equestrian events held at the Iron Stone Farm in Andover.
He is survived by 1 sister; Deborah A. Lee and her husband Thomas of Framingham; 1 aunt; Frances (Welch) Barker of Swampscott; 2 nieces; Rachel and Jennifer Lee both of Framingham; also many friends at Tewksbury Hospital.
Mr. Gendrop was the brother of the late Kathleen A. Gendrop who died July 1, 2002.
Calling hours Thursday morning from 9-10 a.m. at the FARMER & DEE FUNERAL HOME, 16 LEE ST., TEWKSBURY, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. the Chapel at Tewksbury Hospital. Graveside service at 1:30 p.m. at the Blossom Hill Cemetery, Concord, NH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Huntington’s Disease Society of America/ MA Chapter, 1253 Worcester Rd., # 202, Framingham, MA 01701.
