SUDBURY: John A. S. Place, Jr., 79, died peacefully at his Sudbury residence on Sunday, April 1, 2012 following a period of declining health.
He was born in Waltham on April 20, 1932 the son of the late John A. S. Place and Blanche Mary (Collins) Place.
John is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Shirley L. (Cutting) Place of Sudbury. Beloved father of I. William Place and his wife Christine of Townsend, Charles A. Place and his wife Diane of Marlborough, Sarah A. Provencher and her husband Gary P. of Townsend and Doreen S. McCarthy and her husband Daniel J. of Sudbury. Also survived by his daughter-in-law Carolyn L. Place of Mason, NH. Cherished grandfather to eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Brother of Herbert D. Place of Wayland, Dorothy M. Lockwood of Nashua, NH and Marion P. Newman of Framingham. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Mark D. Place who died in 2007 and brother to the late Irving, Daniel, Raymond and Robert Place.
John spent his formative years in Wayland and graduated from Wayland High School with the Class of 1950. He has been a resident of Sudbury for the past 50 years. He served his country proudly with the United States Air Force after graduation. He retired after a long career as a salesman in the local area. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather to his family and enjoyed spending time with them.
Visitations will be held today, Tuesday, April 3, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Rd (Off Rte 30), Wayland.
Private family services and interment in New Town Cemetery will be held for his family.
