Obituary

Evangeline “Vange” G. Palmer, 87 of Derry, NH died Sunday April 1, 2012 in the Pleasant Valley Nursing Center, Derry. Vange was born in Belmont, MA on January 26, 1925, a daughter of the late Herman and Margaret (Brown) Lavoie. She had lived in Derry since 1961, formerly living in Belmont. Vange was a 1943 graduate of Belmont High School. She was a member of the Zoning Board in Derry for 10 years, the Parkland Medical Center Board of Trustees for one year, and Past President of the Alexander Eastman Hospital Auxiliary. Vange also served as Past President of the K of C Auxiliary and was a member of the Derry Historical Society. She worked as a correspondent writing a column called “Derry Doings” for the Derry News, Eagle Tribune and Nashua Telegraph. In addition, Vange was a longtime communicant of St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Derry where she worked as a cook for the priests.
She is survived by one son, Howard L. Palmer and his wife Sally of Amherst, NH, one daughter, Shirley Palmer of Silver Spring, MD, four grandchildren, Dyan Backe,
Erin Desrosiers, Brent Beane and Michael Palmer, four great-grandchildren, also several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Howard F. Palmer in 2003.
Calling hours were held on Tuesday April 3, 2012 from 5 – 7pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday at 10:30am in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Ave., Derry, with cremation to follow. Burial will be at a later date in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Londonderry, NH. Memorial donations may be made to St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Ave., Derry, NH 03038.
