
Rebecca “Becky” Hamby Stone, 75, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at Dorminy Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M., Thursday, April 15, 2004, at the First Baptist Church, Fitzgerald, Georgia, with Rev. Kelly Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Tifton, Georgia. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7:00 until 9:00 Wednesday evening.
Mrs. Stone was born May 1, 1928 in Tift County, Georgia, to the late William Charles and Grace Chaffin Hill. She was a retired bookkeeper with the Board of Education in Ben Hill and Irwin Counties and a former employee of the Irwin County Tax Commissioners office. Mrs. Stone was a Pink Lady at Dorminy Medical Center, a member of the Young at Heart, the AARP, a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star and an avid traveler. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fitzgerald and the Phoebean Sunday School Class.
Mrs. Stone is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: Jerry and Lynne Hamby, Tifton, GA and Steve and Denise Hamby, Ocilla, GA; four grandchildren: Kelley Gentry, Kristy Johnson, Hillary Hamby and Hayden Hamby; three great grandchildren: Lacey Tomberlin, Kelsey Gentry and Gunnar Johnson; two step-daughters: Susan S. Eason, Riverdale, GA and Linda Southard, Seale, AL; two step-sons: Tommy Stone, Stockbridge, GA and John Stone, Alvaton, GA; one brother: Owen Hill, Dunedin, FL; three sisters: Ruth Ciraldo, Atlanta, GA, Mary Short, Ocilla, GA and Myra Huggins, Eastman, GA. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Boyce G. Hamby, Sr., second husband, Robert E. “Bobby” Stone, one daughter, Beverly Ann Hamby, one sister and five brothers.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, Fitzgerald or to the Pink Ladies Auxillary.
