Henry T. Makarewicz
..retired Technical Artist; 90
SALISBURY - Henry T. Makarewicz, age 90, died Friday, March 30th, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill, following a long period of declining health.
He was born in Majewo, Poland, March 22, 1922, a son of the late Boleslaw and Joanna (Deputat) Makarewicz, and emigrated to the United States in his infancy. His family settled in Lowell, but Henry lived the greater part of his life in Lawrence. He retired to Salisbury in 1994.
He graduated from Lowell High School, and went on to graduate from the New England School of Art. He was an accomplished and gifted artist, and had created several family portraits.
During WWII, he served in the U.S. Army, and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant.
Hank began his career as an artist for the Lawrence Eagle Tribune Newspaper, and retired as a Technical Artist from Avco - Textron in Wilmington in 1987.
He was an avid fan of professional sports, and was an exceptionally gifted gardener.
He is survived by a sister, Shirley A. Kirk of Oxford, PA, and her children Sharon Connor of FL, David, Michael, and Stephen Kirk all of PA; a brother, Thadeus and his wife Frieda (Nicosia) Makarewicz of Salisbury, and their children, Mark J. and his wife Joan E. (Pomerleau) Makarewicz, and their children, Melissa, Mark and Nicholas all of Dracut. He was predeceased by his sister Genevieve Buia, formerly of Lowell, but survived by her children, Ronald and his wife Carline Buia of Andover, Brian and his wife Helen of West Newbury, and Brenda (Buia) Farnsworth of Ayer; seveal grand nieces, grand nephews, and cousins. May the Lord welcome him home.
His Funeral Mass was held Tuesday, April 3, in the Holy Trinity Polish Church, Lowell. Burial with Army Honors followed at the Holy Trinity Cemetery in Lowell. Memorial contributions to Merrimack Valley - VNA - Hospice, 360 Merrimack St., Bldg 9, Lawrence, MA 01843, will be appreciated.
