LOWELL—Stephen J. Bodor, 78 years old, a longtime resident of Lowell, died Saturday morning at the Lowell General Hospital. He was the husband of the late Joan T. (Conway) Bodor, who died in 1977.
He was born in Freeland, PA, on July 31, 1925, a son of the late Stephen J. and Laura (Denehey) Bodor, and received his education in the Lynn Schools. He received his Masters’ Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the former University of Lowell.
Mr. Bodor served in the United States Army Air Corps during both World War II and the Korean Conflict. For over 30 years, he taught Mathematics and Physics at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell. He retired as Professor Emeritus.
For many years he was a teaching tennis professional for the United States Professional Tennis Association, in the Lowell area. He was a communicant of the former St. Joseph’s Lithuanian Church, and the Immaculate Conception Church.
Surviving him are two sons: Stephen C. Bodor, of Waterbury, CT; and Christopher J. Bodor, of Lowell; two daughters and a son-in-law: Tracy M. and Robert Bennett, of San Diego, CA; and Leslie M. Bodor, of West Barnstable; a grandson: Mackenzie C. Bodor, of Waterbury, CT; two sisters: Patricia Pashby, of Sacramento, CA; and Laura Corbett, of Danvers; also several nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours. A Memorial Service in celebration of his life will be held Thursday at 12:30 PM at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmtih Street, (Rte. 38). Donations in his memory may be made to the Lowell General Hospital Cancer Center; 295 Varnum Avenue; Lowell, MA 01854.
