...Disabled WWII Veteran, 88
TEWKSBURY - Fortune A. Carlino, age 88, died unexpectedly Tuesday, March 27, at Lowell General Hospital in Lowell, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Margaret A. (Boyle) Carlino with whom he celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary this past February.
He was born in France, a son of the late Pascquale and Marcelle (Danielle) Carlino, immigrated to Arlington, MA in his youth where he graduated from Arlington High School class of 1941. He served and was wounded in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a Technical Sergeant during his tour of duty and was stationed in Italy and Northern Africa. He moved to Tewksbury in 1956 to raise his family and participate in the community. He was a member of the Tewksbury DAV post 110, and VFW Post 8164, and Holy Name Society of St. William Parish, and a past Venerable of The Wilmington Sons of Italy. He retired as a manager from the Boston area First National Stores. He had a passion for cooking and was an avid Boston sports fan.
Besides his wife, Margaret, he is survived by his six children and their spouses; Peter Carlino and Meryl Golovin of Scarborough, ME, Anne and Jim Mercier of Bradford, Peggy and Brian Irwin of New Boston, NH, John and Linda Carlino of Tewksbury, Kathy and Patrick Deignan of Baltimore, MD, Cheryl and Victor LaRosa of Charlottesville, VA, two sisters; Theresa Carlino, Elizabeth Galluzzo both of Arlington, a brother Roger Carlino of Somerville, fourteen grandchildren; Aaron Carlino, Ashley Carlino, Amelia St. John, Jeffrey Mercier, Matt Irwin, Ben Irwin, Jennifer Carlino, Julie Eldridge, Nicholas Deignan, Caroline Deignan, Danielle LaRosa, Jake LaRosa, Aidan LaRosa, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was the brother of the late Peter Carlino, killed in action during the Battle of the Bulge, and the grandfather of the late Michael Mercier.
His Funeral Mass was celebrated Friday, March 30, in St. William Church, burial followed at Tewksbury Cemetery.
