William F. Byers, Sr.
Retired Bull Corporation Computer Operations Manager

TEWKSBURY: William F. "Billy" Byers, Sr. age 74, a Tewksbury resident for 46 years, passed away on Monday, March 26, 2012, at home, with his family by his side, following a courageous battle with A.L.S. .
He was the beloved husband of Katherine F. "Kay" (Coughlin) Byers, with whom he would have celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary on June 18, 2012.
Born in Arlington on April 18, 1937, he was the son of the late Augustus F. and Frances (Patterson) Byers.
Billy was raised in Somerville and graduated from Somerville High School in 1955.
Mr. Byers later attended New Hampshire College, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1979.
Billy resided in Somerville until moving to Tewksbury in 1966.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed for over 25 years by the Bull Corporation as a Computer Operations Manager.
During his retirement years, he enjoyed working at the Hickory Hills Golf Course in Methuen.
In addition, he enjoyed playing golf and serving as a referee for more than 40 years in the Dual State Hockey League.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by two daughters, Sandra M. Byers and Edward Ryea and Mary Byers and Daniel Carney all of Methuen; his daughter-in-law, Camille M. (Silverio) Byers of Andover; two sons, David P. Byers and his wife Debra (Pierson) of Lowell and James M. Byers of Haverhill; six grandchildren; one great grandson; one sister, Jeannie McManus and her husband Arthur of CA; one brother, Robert A. Byers and his wife Sally of CA; his brother-in-law, John Houlihan of Somerville; also many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Byers was the father of the late William F. "Willie" Byers, Jr. and brother of the late Frances Houlihan.
Calling hours are Thursday, March 29, from 4-8 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. His funeral will be held Friday, March 30, at 9 a.m., from the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 a.m., at St. Williams Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment at St. Mary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to A.L.S. Association, (www.alsa.org), 315 Norwood Park S., First Floor, Norwood, MA 02062.
