Cleolas Brown Durden, 89, of Fitzgerald, died Monday, April 12, 2004, at her home.
Mrs. Durden was born September 30, 1914, to the late Henry Brown and Wootie Henderson Brown in Augusta, Georgia, but spent her childhood in Ocilla, Georgia. She was a retired Social Worker serving numerous years in Columbus, Albany and Fitzgerald. Mrs. Durden assisted her husband, the late C.O. Durden, Jr., as a merchant at Durden Electric Company for many years. An active member of the Fitzgerald Garden Club, she served several terms as President and was instrumental in the Evergreen Cemetery Beautification Project. Mr. and Mrs. Durden’s favorite pastimes were spent traveling and as members of the Fitzgerald Boat Club, the Alapahaulers Camping Club, and the Silverheads Camping Club. Mrs. Durden was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Bethany Sunday School Class.
Mrs. Durden is survived by one daughter: Jane Durden Floyd, Fitzgerald; one son: Dr. Charles Henry Durden, Fitzgerald; three grandchildren: Carol F. McDonald, Fitzgerald, Anna Beth F. Dreibelbis, Valdosta, and Natalie Durden Mann, Fitzgerald; 5 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Durden was blessed with special caregivers Jessie Mae Wilcox, Joan Harper and Betty Easter.
Graveside services for Mrs. Durden will be 4 P.M., Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at Evergreen Cemetery in Fitzgerald. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 P.M. Tuesday.
