William Ernst Sievers , age 83 years of Stoughton, passed away peacefully on Saturday March 24, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. Born December 10, 1928 in Boston, Massachusetts, he was a son to the late Victoria (Ernst) and William Sievers of Stoughton. He attended Stoughton High School and graduated from Admiral Farragut Academy in Pine Beach, New Jersey. He also attended and graduated from Northeastern University and the Wentworth Institute of Technology. Tech. Sergeant Sievers served his country with the United States Army during the Korean War and was engaged in battle as a Bomb Disposal Expert. He was the proud recipient of both THE KOREAN SERVICE MEDAL WITH 2 BRONZE CAMPAIGN STARS and THE UNITED NATIONS SERVICE MEDAL COMBAT INFANTRY BADGE. He later returned home to Stoughton to work with his father at the William F. Sievers Machine Shop. William was later employed as a Machinist by both The Foxboro Company and The Hasbro Company and actually retired from Albany International in 1994.
As a young man William loved hunting and fishing and spent his summers on Cape Cod. His family later purchased island property in Maine where he loved to sail and spend every summer weekend for the last 60 years. This property, even to this day, continues to be enjoyed by his families next generations. William married Carrie P. (Woodworth), originally from Dedham, MA in 1956. William was a member and a Master Mason for over 61 years at Rising Star Lodge A.F. & A.M. in Stoughton. He was also a member of the Board of Trustees at Evergreen Cemetery in Stoughton and a Trustee at The First Congregational Church of Stoughton.
William is survived by his beloved wife of over 55 years, Carrie P. (Woodworth) and his son William Jr. and his wife Susan of Bow, New Hampshire. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Travis and Taylor Sievers. William was preceded in death by his son Christopher and his brother Joseph. William will be especially remembered for his love of the ocean, his home in Stoughton and most of all his independence.
His funeral service will be held on Thursday March 29,2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the First Congregational Church of Stoughton, 76 Pierce Street, Stoughton.The Pastor Rev. Jean Niven Lenk, officiating. Burial with military honors to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday March 28, 2012 from 4 – 8 p.m. in the Sheehan, Lowe & Powers Funeral Home, 115 Monk Street, Stoughton. NOTE: MASONIC FUNERAL SERVICE STARTING AT 7:30 P.M.
