Methuen, MA — Sr. Rita Marie Duguay, 90 died Wednesday March 21, 2012 at the Saint Claire Residence at the Presentation of Mary in Methuen, MA.
Born in Woonsocket, RI on November 1921, daughter of Joseph A. and Adele (Mainville) Duguay. She entered the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary in Hudson, NH January 1941 and pronounced her religious vows on July 26, 1943 taking her religious name Sr. Sainte Mariedu Carmel. Sr. Rita attended elementary school in Woonsocket, RI and high school in Hudson, NH. She graduated Rivier College in Nashua, NH receiving her degree in education
Sr. Rita served in Maine and Massachusetts as an elementary school teacher with a special gift for the “little ones”. She also served at the Presentation of Mary Nursery in Methuen from 1983 – 1993.
During her years in Maine, she was chair person of the “On Going Education Program” for adults in Lewiston and member of Social Justice, Worship and Spirituality in Augusta. Sr. Rita retired in 1998 at the Residence Sainte Claire in Methuen, MA.
She is survived by one sister, Marie Doris Duguay; nieces, Helen Bower and Rose Mary Lee and a cousin, Gloria Coderre along with several others.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 2:00p.m. – 4:00p.m. and 6:00p.m. – 8:00p.m. at the St. Claire Residence at the Presentation of Mary 209 Lawrence, St. Methuen, MA.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 2:30p.m. in the Chapel of the Presentation of Mary with burial to follow in the Presentation of Mary.
