Obituary

Genevieve A. (Rice) Covell, 96, of Peacham, VT, formerly of Cambridge and North Reading, MA, died on March 22, 2012 in Peacham, VT. She was the beloved wife of the late Paul B. Covell, a former Cambridge Police Officer.
Born in Danvers on April 5, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Christine (Maynard) Rice. Genevieve was a registered nurse and a graduate of Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing. She furthered her education at Boston University, Tufts University and Simmons College. She worked for the City of Boston Visiting Nurses Association and later for the City of Cambridge Public Health Department for 31 years prior to retiring. She did volunteer work for the American Lung Association and assisted with numerous Tuberculosis Clinics. She loved to travel and visited several countries learning about their nursing practices. She also enjoyed the Bruins and Patriots games and attended many of their charity dinners. She enjoyed gardening and was also a handler of Boston terrier show dogs. Genevieve devoted her life to helping others and will be sadly missed.
She was the mother of Joanne Rockstraw (Robert) of Peacham, VT and Edward Covell (Linda) of Thorofare, NJ, grandmother of Stephen and Ronald Tourangeau and Christopher and David Covell, great grandmother of Jessica Keegan, Megan and Shawna Tourangeau, step-grandmother of Cindy Maher and Richard and David Covell, aunt of Diane Rice, Nancy Gowell, Patty Whalen, Anne Sullivan, Ralph, Greg and Brian Buxton. She was predeceased by her siblings, Edward and Clifton Rice, Harriet Rice and Helen Buxton, her step-son, Paul Covell and nieces, Cathy Spencer and Christine Dennis.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9AM on Thurs. March 29, 2012 in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church (where she was baptized and married), 24 Conant St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Danvers. Vst. Hrs are Wed. from 5-8PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers.
