Lawrence, Ma. – Mary C. (Ryan) Merrigan, age 95, died Friday, March 23, 2012 at the Nevins Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by her family.
Mary was born in Methuen on July 11, 1916 the daughter of Thomas and Catherine (Sheridan) Ryan. She was a graduate of St. Rita’s Grammar School in Lawrence, St. Mary’s High School and was also a graduate of the MacIntosh School of Business.
For many years, she was the business manager of the Paul C. Campbell Insurance Company in Lawrence until her retirement.
Mary was an active communicant of St. Monica’s Church and a church greeter. She was a member and officer of the St. Claire League, a member of the Caritas Holy Family Women’s Auxiliary, and a member of the Merrimack Valley Philharmonic Society, where she served on the Board of Directors. She was also a member of the Methuen Women’s League, held office in the Methuen Women’s Civic Club, and volunteered for the Eagle Tribune Santa Fund and the Methuen Festival of Trees. Mary was a devoted grandmother and great grandmother and loved spending time with all of them. She was an avid traveler and was able to visit many countries throughout the world.
She was the widow of Arthur H. Merrigan.
Mary is survived by her children M. Kathleen and husband David A. Johnson of Methuen, Ann Marie and husband Jerry M. Marcoux of Derry, NH, and Thomas A. Merrigan of Dover, NH, seven grandchildren Ryan, Chelsey, Elizabeth, Kelly, Katie, Thomas, and Jack, and four great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Margaret C. Ryan, and her cousin, Sr. Agnes Sheridan, SND.
At the request of the family, all services will be private and are under the direction of the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street in Methuen.
