Obituary

Delia (Ferreira) Candeias, age 94 of Fall River, passed away March 21, 2012. She was the wife of the late Alvaro Joseph Candeias and the daughter of the late Antonio & Teresa Ferreira. Prior to retiring, Delia worked as a Teachers Aide.

Delia was a most positive person. She was very interested in current events. She thrived on new ideas. Delia took cake decorating classes and sewing classes. She would use what she learned but then added her own special touches. When neighbors were sick, Delia sent over soup. When neighbors had a problem, she would discreetly send a few dollars to “tied them over”. Delia took care of her children in her own home, along with nieces & nephews at various times. Her style of “taking care” was to take them to North Park, bringing back leaves and twigs and rocks or anything that interested them. They would paint them, glue them and create masterpieces - all at the kitchen table. She celebrated every holiday with joy – making costumes or decorations. She loved having our friend “over” and our friends always knew how welcomed they were.

In her late fifties, with the children grown, Delia went to apply for a job outside of the house. She was hired as a Teachers Aide at the Child Development Center. It was a perfect match! Delia retired at age eighty five.

Mrs. Candeias was the mother of David T. Candeias and Sandra C. Augustinho, both of Fall River; grandmother of Sara Candeias Piasecki and Michael Tavares; great grandmother of 3; the sister of Diemas Ferreira of Swansea, Malvina Medeiros of Fall River, and Ginny Cooper of Oregon; aunt to several nieces & nephews. She was the sister of the late Tina White, Sarah Ferreira, Oliver, Manuel, Antonio, Joseph, & Gilbert Ferreira
