Webster
Esther (Snyder) Stocklin, of 133 ThompsonRd.,a retired Nurse Practitioner, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 19, 2012.
She leaves a brother, Albert Snyder of Webster, a sister, Carolyn Holmes of Milford, Ct, nine nieces and nephews, 13 great nieces and nephews, and three great-great grand nephews.
A brother, Frank Snyder of Newark, Delaware, predeceased her in 1996. Albert, her husband of 57 years, died in 2000.
She was born in Dudley, daughter of Anna Menzner and Frank Snyder.
She graduated from Bartlett High School in 1936, Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing in 1940, and MGH Nurse Practitioner course in 1974. Dr. Adrian Chasse was her sponsor and her preceptor.
She worked at the Baker Memorial Hospital, Boston, Webster District Hospital, and did private duty nursing in Southbridge,Webster, Putnam, Worcester, and Petersham before joining the Webster Samaritan Association in 1953 (Now Southern Worcester County Health Association) for whom she worked for 28 years. For many years, she was a Blood Bank and Friendly Corner Thrift Shop volunteer.
She had been a member and President of the former Webster/Dudley Nurses Club, a member of the Blackstone Valley Visiting Nurses Club,the Webster/Dudley Historical Society, the former Nokomis Chapter 128 order of the Eastern Star,A Bible study member, and the Mass. General Alumnae Association. She chaired three reunion committees of the Bartlett Class of 1936.
She enjoyed gardening, reading, rug and basket making, furniture refinishing, caning, needlework, and at one time had a 250 antique doll collection. She spent many years researching and compiling her father and maternal grandfather’s genealogy.
The history of Webster and Dudley was another interest. She traveled extensively, not only abroad, but in the United States and Canada.
In 2002, she was honored by the VNA of Southern Worcester County, Inc.; an investment trust was named in her honor.
There are No Calling Hours. Funeral Services will be Private. Burial will be at a later date in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
