SPRINGFIELD – Marguerite V. “Peggie” (Moriarty) Murphy, 86, of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 18, 2012. She passed into Eternal Life surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. Peggie was born in Springfield on August 12, 1925, a beloved daughter of the late William F. and Barbara S. (Ashley) Moriarty. She graduated from the High School of Commerce and was a lifelong resident of the city. She and her late husband, Red, were the founding members of the Van Horn Parents Association. An avid reader, she spent many hours enjoying books from the Liberty Street Branch Library. Peggie took great pride in being a wonderful homemaker to her family. An excellent cook and baker, she loved to sew and do crafts and was always ready for a game of cards at a moment's notice. Having traveled to Ireland each year with her husband and family, she leaves behind many dear Irish friends whose friendship has meant the world to her over the years. She was a communicant of the former Our Lady of Hope Church and a member of the Our Lady of Hope Guild. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, James F. “Red” Murphy, Sr., who passed away on July 10, 2003. They were married on January 16, 1946 at Our Lady of Hope Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 57 years of happiness together. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her sister, Barbara Moriarty. She leaves: her loving children, James F. Murphy, Jr. of Butte, MT, Maureen Murphy Dion and her husband, Robert, of Blandford, MA, Bobbie Murphy Frydryk and her husband, Mark, of Ludlow, William F. Murphy of Springfield, and Martha Murphy Kane and her husband, Robert, of Holyoke; her six cherished grandchildren, Shauna Palin, Lindsay Frydryk Fernald and her husband, Jeremy, Andrew Frydryk, Brittney Kane, Devan Kane, and Aidan Kane; her cherished great granddaughter, Emma Grace Palin; her dear sisters-in-law, Mary Daly Murphy of Fairfax, VA and Marguerite McTeague and her husband, William, of Connecticut; and her many dear nieces and nephews. Her funeral will be held on Friday morning, March 23, 2012 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104. Her burial will follow the Mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 421 Tinkham Road, Springfield, MA 01129. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home in the Chapin Chapel on Thursday, March 22, 2012 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Her family has requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
