Obituary

R. Scott Sawyer, Esq., 54, of Natick passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer on March 19, 2012. He was the beloved husband of Sandy (John) Sawyer with whom he shared 9 years of marriage.
Born in Wellesley, the son of Ralph and Barbara (Davis) Sawyer of Wellesley, Scott was raised and educated there. He went on to graduate from the University of Maine at Orono and then earned his J.D. from Boston College Law School and M.A. from Harvard University. Scott was employed as the Senior Vice President and Managing Counsel for State Street Bank in Boston. He was previously employed as Legal Counsel at Bank of Boston.
An integral member of the community, Scott was very generous with his time and talent throughout the Natick Community. He was a former volunteer for Special Olympics of MA, former Board Member and President of the Natick Service Council, former Board Member and Vice-President of the Natick Community Organic Farm, former member of the Town of Natick Planning Board, and a former member of the finance committee at the Fisk Memorial United Methodist Church. Scott loved to spend time walking the beach at his summer home in Narragansett, R.I., and enjoyed cooking, fishing, running, gardening, and was an avid sports fan. Most important to Scott was time spent with family and friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, Scott is survived by his cherished children, Jennifer and Robert Sawyer of Natick; his sister, Linda Pratt and her husband Robert of Alabama; his parents-in-law, Frank and Earlene John of Seekonk; his brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Kara John of Seekonk; and his beloved cat “Smokey” and yellow lab, “Hoss”. He was the grandson of the late Ralph and Marion Sawyer of Wellesley and the late Ralph and Marion Davis of Manchester, N.H.
Visiting hours will be held in the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park St. (at Natick Common) NATICK on Thursday, March 22, 2012 from 4-7 PM. A funeral service will be held in the Fisk Memorial United Methodist Church, 106 Walnut St. Natick on Friday, March 23, 2012 at 11:00 AM. Burial will be private. Scott’s family asks that those wishing to remember him may do so through memorial donations to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Pl.
