DUDLEY – Sophie H. (Holup) Schellbach, 84, of Dudley died Saturday, March 17, 2012 in Harrington Memorial Hospital, Southbridge with her family at her side.
She leaves her husband of 62 years, George Schellbach; a daughter, Rose Oleksiak and her husband Michael of Smithfield, Maine; a granddaughter, Kim Neal and her husband Ryan of Theresa, NY; 2 great granddaughters, Riley and Karley Neal; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
She was born in Worcester and raised on Millbury Street there, a daughter of Harry and Helen Holup. She lived in Dudley for many years.
Mrs. Schellbach was primarily a homemaker. She also worked as a sales clerk at a mill outlet and then at Allen’s Sewing Center, both in Southbridge, before she retired.
She was an active member of Holy Trinity Polish National Catholic Church in Webster, where she served on the church committee and sang in the choir for many years. Skilled in sewing and quilting, she was a member of the Interfaith Knitting Group in Danielson, CT and then of the Dudley Senior Needlework Group here. The groups knitted mittens, hats, scarfs, and other items which were donated to school children, veterans and others in the community. She also made prayer shawls for those with illness.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, March 21, from the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School Street, Webster, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Holy Trinity Polish National Catholic Church, 68 Lake Street, Webster. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be from 7:00 to 9:00 PM Tuesday, March 20, in the funeral home.
