Fall River – Melvin Howard Connick, Jr., 77, husband of Mildred J. (Briggs) Connick of Westport died Friday, April 9, 2004 at Charlton Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
He was born in New Bedford, the son of Melvin H. Sr. and Harriet E. (Higgins) Connick. and had lived in Westport since 1980. Prior to his retirement he was a cook for the United States Navy and United States Civil Service. He was a member and lay speaker of the Westport Point United Methodist Church.
Mr. Connick was a United States Navy veteran of WWII, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He was a member of the V.F.W. and the Fleet Reserve Association. He was a member of the former Alden Ambulance Corps of New Bedford and also a call firefighter for the Town of Wellfleet, MA. He also was an avid fisherman and ran a soup kitchen in Fall River.
Survivors including his wife are: 2 sons: Peter E. Connick of Chatham, MA and Timothy A. Connick of Tiverton; a sister: Rita Amaral of New Bedford; 3 grandchildren: Jennifer Connick, Erin Connick and Caroline Connick.
He was also the brother of the late Kathleen Arsenault.
Services to which relatives and friends are invited will be held Tuesday, April 13, 2004 at 10:30 A.M. at the POTTER FUNERAL HOME, 81 Reed Road, Westport.
Calling hours Monday 5-8 P.M.
Interment in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA.
