HAVERHILL: Margaret M. (Oberti) Masera, 87, died, March 14, 2012 with her loving son and granddaughter by her side at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington. She was the wife of the late Lawrence Masera.
Born in Haverhill on March 22, 1924 she was the daughter of the late Frank A. and Margherita M. (Gastaldi) Oberti. Margaret was a lifelong resident of Haverhill and a graduate of Haverhill High School class of 1942. She also attended Mass. College of Art where she received her Bachelor’s Degree and was president of her senior class. Margaret then continued her education at Columbia University earning a Master’s Degree in Teaching.
Her teaching career began in 1946 at House in the Pines Junior College, Norton, MA. From 1948 – 1956 she worked as an art supervisor for the Haverhill Public Schools and as an art teacher at Haverhill High School from 1972 – 1979. She also loved sharing her talent as an artist by teaching art in her private studio for many years. Margaret was a member of the national and local AARP, Women’s City Club of Haverhill and the Retired Educators Association of Mass.
She is survived by her son, Lawrence A. Masera and his wife, Cecilia of Haverhill; two granddaughters, Leeanne L. Dyment and her husband, Robert of TX and Reagan L. Masera of Haverhill; two great-grandsons, Jack and Jake Dyment; two brothers, William J. Oberti of MI and Frank A. Oberti of Bradford and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her brother, Louis J. Oberti and her sister-in-law, Lenora Oberti. Margaret’s funeral service will be held on Saturday at the Linnehan- Grondin Funeral Home, 129 Kenoza Avenue, Haverhill at 11a.m. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 – 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Margaret’s memory to the Lahey Clinic C/O Philanthropy, Cardiology Fund; 41 Mall Road, Burlington, MA 01805. Interment will be held in the St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Haverhill.
