OXFORD – Alice R. (Stawasz) Skarbek, 97, formerly of Oxford, died Thursday, March 15, 2012 in Notre Dame Long Term Care Center, Worcester, after a short illness. Her husband of 58 years, William L. Skarbek, died in 1991.
She leaves a daughter, Louise M. Hester and her husband John W. Hester of Oxford; A daughter-in-law, Selena C. Skarbek of Cape Coral, FL; 5 grandchildren, Susan McClugage, Brian and Adam Skarbek, Jennifer Mahlert and Sean Hester; 12 great grandchildren, Cameron, Caitlin, Connor, Casey, Hannah, Jayden, Ridge, Chase, Makena, Christopher, Patrick and Elizabeth; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son William J. Skarbek in 2007 and by 5 brothers and 3 sisters.
She was born in Dudley and raised in Webster, the daughter of Jacob and Rose (Bonczek) Stawasz. She lived in Oxford for most of her life before moving to Worcester 5 years ago.
Mrs. Skarbek worked as a cone winder at Maanexit Spinning Company in Webster for many years, retiring in 1977.
She was a member of Saint Joseph Basilica in Webster. She enjoyed praying and spending time with her family.
The funeral will be held Monday, March 19, from Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street, Webster, with a Mass at 11:30 AM in Saint Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb St., Webster. Burial will be in St. Joseph Garden of Peace. Calling hours will be from 3:00 to 5:00 PM Sunday, March 18, in the funeral home.
