William F. Campbell age 74 of Salem, NH, died Wednesday at the Holy Family Hospital, Methuen, MA.He was born in Somerville, MA, where he grew up and attended schools. He was a resident of Salem, NH for the past 40 years, formerly of Somerville, MA.
Mr. Campbell was a Patrolman for the Salem, NH Police Department, where he retired in 1990 after 23 years of service. He served as the K-9 Officer with his dog Caesar for 10 years. Mr. Campbell was a US Army veteran, serving in the 2nd Engineering Combat Battalion Division in the Korean War as a Staff Sgt.. He was a member of the NH Retired Police Association, a Life Member of the Salem Police Department Association. In 1974 he received the Kiwanis Policeman of the Year Award, and in 1982 he received the Elks Policeman of the Year Award. He was a member of the American Legion Ernest Young Post 63 in Salem, NH, the Teamsters Local 25 in Boston, MA, and Mary Queen of Peace Church in Salem, NH. He was also a member of the Spicket Lodge # 85 F&AM in Salem, NH. He enjoyed playing pool, golf and pitching in the Salem Police Softball League. He was an avid Boston Red Sox Fan, and NY Giant Fan.
He is survived by his Wife of 49 years Margery A. (Whelan) Campbell of Salem, NH

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 11 AM at Mary Queen of Peace Church, Salem, NH. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Salem, NH
Calling hours will be held Sunday from 3-8 PM at the Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main Street, Salem, NH.
