Francis X. McMenemy, 83, of Worcester died Saturday, March 10th in St. Vincent Hospital, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his brother, Bernard J. McMenemy and his wife Margaret of Worcester; and his sister, Joan E. and her husband Tom Dolan of West Boylston and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his siblings, Walter, George, Robert, Mary, Ann, William, Carol and Rita.
He was born in Worcester the son of Walter J. McMenemy Sr. and Anna (McKeown) McMenemy. Francis served in the United States Army and had been employed by General Motors Assembly Plant in Framingham, MA, retiring in 1983.
Francis loved the outdoors and the natural environment. His passion was birding, and he was past President of the Forbush Bird Club, and received its rarely bestowed and highest honor, “The Forbush Fellow.” He took quiet pride in leading countless bird trips in Central Massachusetts, as an unassuming and much beloved Ornithologist. Francis was also an amateur magician who enthralled all his nieces, nephews and children of all ages with his magical tricks.
Calling hours are Wednesday, March 14th from 4:00 until 7:00 PM in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue. His funeral mass will be held on Thursday, March 15th at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn.
