Obituary

GLOUCESTER: Anne Josephine “JoAnn” (Luongo) Boucher, 74, died unexpectedly on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at her home in East Gloucester. She was the wife of the late Chief BM Leonard T. Boucher, Sr., U.S.C.G., who died in October of 1987. They had shared thirty years of marriage.
Born in Everett on July 27, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Antonio Raffaele and Florinda (Palazzo) Luongo. She was a graduate of the Medford High School class of 1956. Along with her family, she summered on Plum Island, where she and Lenny met.
As a Coast Guard wife of twenty-two years, she raised her children at locations such as Thatcher’s Island and the Eastern Point Light Station. Once they were of school age, JoAnn began working as a dietician at Addison Gilbert Hospital, where she remained for ten years. She then became the receptionist at the Cape Ann Medical Center and later at the Seacoast Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for twelve years, having retired this past December.
She and Lenny had enjoyed traveling the East Coast in an RV. She was also an avid knitter and enjoyed playing cards. Her family was the pinnacle of her life and her grandchildren brought her special joy. A wonderful cook, JoAnn loved hosting Sunday dinners and entertaining family, friends and always, the more the merrier.
She is survived by two sons, Leonard T. Boucher, Jr. and his wife, Maryanne (Hobbs) of Rochester, NY and Stephen M. Boucher and his wife, Mary Ann (Albert) Boucher of Gloucester; her daughter, Stacie M. and her husband, F. Scott Hutchinson, IV of Gorham, ME; nine grandchildren, Nicole A. Boucher, Lyla Q. Boucher, Stephen M. Boucher, Jr., Jessica L. Boucher, India L. Boucher, Krista R. Boucher, Scott T. Hutchinson, Samantha B. Hutchinson and Kailey E. and her husband, Seth Mione; two great-grandchildren, Kaleb C. Allen and Iylan E. Mione; a brother, Ralph and his wife Lynn Luongo; a sister, Gail and her husband, Ray Eldridge; many nieces and nephews and many dear friends, including her lifelong friend, Elena, wife of the late John Zero.
Her funeral service will be held on Monday in the Community Church of East Gloucester, Chapel Street at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held prior to the service in the Community Church from 10 – 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the “Friends of Seacoast” c/o Seacoast Nursing & Rehab.
