Whitman – Theodore W. “Ted” Menard 91, of Whitman and Scituate died Thursday March 8 after a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of 65 years to the late Marjorie L. (O’Brien) Menard.
Born and raised in Taunton he was the son of the late Wilfred and Delima (LeFaivre) Menard.
He had been a proud veteran of World War II having served in the US Navy from 1943-1946 with the 67th Construction Battalion during the South Pacific Theatre on the islands of Saipan and Tinian.
After completing his time in the service he married his wife Marjorie in December 1946 and they set up their residence in Whitman.
He had attended the Waltham School of Watchmaking and the North Bennett Street Industrial School and founded Menard Jewelers of Whitman in 1949. Ted along with his wife Marjorie had worked for over 55 years as owners and operators of the long standing Whitman business.
After his retirement he had moved to Scituate where he delighted in his countless days both sailing and maintaining his boat. He also enjoyed gardening and golfing.
He was a member of the Knight of Columbus of Whitman.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and is survived by his children David B. Menard and his wife Doreen of Whitman and Ellen Zubof and her husband Christopher of VA. He is also survived by his grandchildren Sara and Melissa Menard and Egan Yukis as well as many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Roland and Edgar Menard and Vivian Gallant and Lorraine Smith.
His services will be held Tuesday March 13 at 8:15 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass at 9 AM in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Burial will follow in the Holy Family Cemetery, Rockland. Visiting hours will be held Monday March 12 from 4-8 PM.
