Elizabeth G. "Gert" (Fox) Curran, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, passed away into eternal life on Friday, March 2, 2012 at Glen Ridge Nursing Care Center in Medford after a brief illness. She was 102 years old.
Gert was born in Boston on September 22, 1909 to the late John J. and Kate (Boyle) Fox. She grew up in Charlestown and attended the Boston Public School system. Gert was a homemaker and dedicated her life to her children following the death of her husband who passed away 75 years ago.
Gert is the beloved wife of the late Lawrence R. Curran. She is the devoted mother of Lawrence R. Curran Jr. of Charlestown, Catherine M. West of Malden, Joan G. Matarazzo of Medford, Marilyn E. Mullaney of Malden, Theresa C. Roche of Townsend and the late Catherine Hickey, Patricia Sullivan and Gertrude Toner. She is the loving Nana to 26 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Gert's Funeral on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 10 a.m. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. Visiting hours on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
