Sandra G. "Sandy" (MacEachern) Pappas, Of Woburn, age 65, was born in Somerville, Sandy was very proud of being a "Somerville girl". Her mother's parents resided on Main St. in North Woburn, and Sandy spent several teenage years in the care of her aunt and uncle, Irene and Harold Barrelle. She attended Woburn High School for several years before returning to Somerville.
It was while she lived in Woburn that she met her future husband, Bob Pappas, whom she married in 1963. Married for more than forty eight years, they spent the last 40 years at the Pappas homestead on Harrison Ave, where they raised four children, Bob, Karen, Nick and Stephen. They were fortunate to become grandparents to eight beautiful children, Kaleigh, Kristie, Chloe, David, Sarah, Niko, Maximilian and Matthew.
Sandy was a past president of the Church Women United of Woburn. She also was a member of the ladies Philoptochos Society of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church of Woburn. She was a staunch convert to Orthodoxy more than forty years ago, but she never lost her pride in her Scottish ancestry, attending the Scottish Games with Bob and her family whenever possible. Her creativity was boundless. She was an accomplished artist, working in oils with both palette knife and brushes; a talented landscaper, who was constantly complimented by passersby on her floral placements and plant presentations; a truly gifted cook, each Easter, at her home, she served a hundred or more friends and relatives a multitude of Greek ethnic entrees and desserts that she had personally prepared. Her greatest talent, however, was her ability to effortlessly create a warm, loving environment for family, friend or strangers. She did this because she possessed a truly unselfish, caring spirit.
Despite all her abilities and accomplishments, she was most proud of being a "Yia Yia" (Greek Grandmother). That was her "high point" in life. She attained her happiness in life surrounded every week by her family, up to, and including the time of her passing.
