- Marjorie Jane (Hewlitt) Waddicor, 68, of Mystic, died April 5th from complications from heart surgery.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, William David Waddicor, her three children, Debbie Lee Caron, Bruce Waddicor, and William David Waddicor Jr., 6 grandsons, and one great-grandson.
Marjie will be sadly missed by her loving sister, Mrs. Virginia Gardner and her husband, Les, of East Lyme, CT and Lake Helen, FL, and their daughters, Mrs. Diana Smith and Ms. Janice Gardner. She was predeceased by her brother, Harold Hewlitt (Whitey) and his deceased son, Harold Hewlitt Jr. (Buddy). She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Waddicor was a lifetime resident of Groton/Mystic and was a member of one of the first graduating classes of the “new” Fitch Senior High School at the top of Fort Hill.
She worked at the First National Supermarket in Groton until she married in 1961, and regularly attended their annual reunions.
Mrs. Waddicor was an avid Bingo player and was also well known for her expertise in “couponing” and “refunding”. The New London Day dubbed her the “Coupon Queen” in the 1980’s and Supermarket Shopper Magazine awarded her the “Shopper of the Year” plaque for her generosity in sharing her talent with everyone. For a number of years, her annual refund conventions at the Groton Lodge of Elks were quite a success. Mrs. Waddicor was a member of the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.
There will not be any service or visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jocelyn Diabetes Center, c/o L&M Hospital, 365 Montauk Ave, New London 06320.
