Obituary

Gary Michael Calabro, age 64, lifelong resident of Natick, died on Wednesday morning, February 29, 2012, at Mary Ann Morse Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Natick after a long illness.

Born in Dorchester on May 25, 1947, he was a son of Jewel (Black) Calabro of Natick and the late Joseph Calabro. Gary was raised and educated in Natick and joined the U.S. Army right from high school. He served as a heavy machine operator overseas during the Vietnam War.

Gary was employed as a Natick school bus driver for over twenty years. He enjoyed extensive travel, encompassing the continental United States and many areas of the world. In 1998 he discovered Playa del Coco in Costa Rica with a friend and it would become his home away from home from that time on. For the past 15 years Gary was a driver with Cavicchio’s Greenhouse in Sudbury and spent most winters in Playa del Coco. He was a longtime member of the American Legion Post #107 in Natick. An outgoing man, he had many friends and very much enjoyed a good Italian meal.

In addition to his mother, Gary is survived by a brother, Glenn Calabro and his wife Eileen of Lake Mary, FL; a niece, Brittany; a large extended family; and many close friends.

His Funeral Service will be held at the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street, Natick, on Monday, Mar. 5th at 1:00p.m. Relatives and friends may visit with the family beginning at noon. Burial will be at Dell Park Cemetery.
