Rosalie A. (Smith) Sweeney 97, of Medway formerly of Waltham died February 27 in her home. She was the wife of the late Edmund W. Sweeney for 65 years until his death in 2010.
Born in Waltham, July 18, 1914, the daughter of the late Joseph and Angelina (Murphy) Smith, Mrs. Sweeney was raised and had lived in Waltham until she moved to Medway 4 years ago.
Mrs. Sweeney was 1932 graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Waltham.
She had been an inspector for the Hewlett Packard Corporation for several years until her retirement. She had previously been a Supervisor at the Raytheon Corporation.
Mrs. Sweeney had been an active volunteer throughout the years.
She had been a volunteer at McLean Hospital, and organizer of rides for cancer patient to their treatments in Boston hospitals, a reading aide at the MacArthur Elementary School in Waltham, and had assisted wheelchair bound residents at the Marist Hill Nursing Home to get to the Chapel for Mass.
Mrs. Sweeney loved to go to Wilson Lake in Maine with her family.
She is survived by her daughter Maureen Ann Meyer and her husband Donald of Medway.
She is also survived by her siblings, James Smith of Waltham, Mary Gardner of Medway, John Smith of Rochester, New York and Eleanor Doris Bourgeois of Orlando, Florida.
She is also survived by her granddaughter Michelle Richardson and her husband Douglas of New Jersey and her great-grandchildren, Noah and Rosalie Richardson.
Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday March 3 in St. Joseph Church Medway at 10:00
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery Waltham
Visitation will be on Saturday from 8:00-9:45 in the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 3 Barber St. Medway.
