SOUTHAMPTON – Olive P. (Blanchard) Duval, 90, of Southampton and a former longtime resident of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, February 21, 2012. She passed into Eternal Life from her home in Southampton surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her wonderful caregivers from Holyoke Visiting Nurse and Hospice Life Care. She was born at home in the Chicopee Falls section of Chicopee on January 19, 1922, a beloved daughter of the late Cyril and Georgiana (Demers) Blanchard. She was raised in Chicopee and moved to the Aldenville section of the city in 1947 where she lived for many years before moving to Southampton in 2000. During her early years, she was employed at the former American Bosch Company. Following her marriage in 1942 to her beloved husband, she became a stay at home mom raising her family and showering them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. During her quiet time at home, she enjoyed crossword puzzles, painting and Sunday drives with her family. She was a former communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee and currently a communicant of Our Lady of the Valley Church in Easthampton. Olive was a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the South Hadley Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Yankee Division of Holyoke. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Henry P. Duval, who was Called Home on August 19, 2002. They were married on August 1, 1942 at the former Saint George Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 60 years of happiness together. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by: her loving son, David W. Duval, who was Called Home on August 13, 1965; her dear sisters, Alice Blanchard, Cecile Oakland and Jeanne Viens; and her dear brothers, Richard and Gerald Blanchard. She leaves: her loving children, Shirley J. Gadouas of Chicopee, Michelle F. Duval of Southampton, Denise C. Baker and her husband, Robert, of Westfield, Christine D. Edwards and her husband, Robert, of El Sobrante, CA, Henry P. Duval, Jr. and his wife, Annette, of the Feeding Hills section of Agawam, and Martin W. Duval and his wife, Susan, of Chicopee; her 11 cherished grandchildren whom she adored, Krista Robbins, Erik Gadouas, David Gadouas, Shawn Baker, Jason Baker, Brian Mesick, Casey Edwards, Gabrielle Duval, Anthony Duval, Daniel Duval and Nicole Duval; her 15 cherished great-grandchildren; her dear brothers, Ernest P. Blanchard and his wife, Cecile, of Saint Petersburg, FL, Maurice Blanchard and his wife, Bertha, of Chicopee, and Louis Blanchard of Mechanicsburg, PA; her dear sisters, Lillian Denis and Joyce Blanchard, both of Chicopee; her dear sister-in-law, Ellen Blanchard of South Hadley; her dear brother-in-law, Ronald Viens of Chicopee; her dear sisters-in-law of the Duval family, Regina Barthelette of Saint Petersburg, FL and Theresa Fitzgerald of Springfield; and her many dear nephews and nieces. Her funeral will be held on Friday morning, February 24, 2012, beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 (funeral home will open at 8:15 a.m.) followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home in the Rose Chapel on Thursday, February 23, 2012 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family has requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to Holyoke Visiting Nurse and Hospice Life Care, 113 Hampden Street, Holyoke, MA 01040.
