CHICOPEE – Victor L. “Vic” Carrier, 79, passed into Eternal Life on Monday, January 2, 2012. As he lived his life, he bravely faced the difficult path of cancer, and died in his home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family with support from the wonderful VA Hospice caregivers. Born in Holyoke on September 2, 1932 to the late Alfred and Blanche (Bourgeois) Carrier, he attended the former Precious Blood School and lived in the city for many years. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Following his military service, he returned to the area and resumed working at the family business, Carrier’s Appliance Service, started by his father in 1944 on East Street in Holyoke. The store moved to Main Street where Vic and his brothers maintained their tradition of service for over 50 years. Vic also supported the revitalization of Holyoke and earned a Beautify Holyoke award. While living in Holyoke, he was a longtime communicant of the former Precious Blood Church where he was a member of their League of the Sacred Heart. After moving to the Aldenville section of Chicopee in 1968, he became a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church and was a member of their Renew Team and Charasmatic Prayer Group. Vic was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed fishing, candlepin bowling and country music. Vic leaves his wife of 55 years, Patricia A. (Fagnant) Carrier. Besides his wife, he leaves: his loving children, Decon Roger A. Carrier and his wife, Carol, of North Granby, CT, James J. Carrier and his wife, Gail, of Chicopee, Elizabeth A. DeBeasi of North Granby, CT and Angela M. Leclerc and her husband, Mark, of Chicopee; his seven cherished grandchildren, Sarah Carrier Stough and her husband, David, Amanda Carrier, James Carrier, Carla Ruiz and her husband, Aaron, Matthew DeBeasi, Nathan Leclerc and Calla Leclerc; his two dear brothers, Robert Carrier and his wife, Judith of South Hadley and Alfred Carrier and his wife, Polly of Chicopee; his five dear sisters, Joan Malinowski and her husband, Mitchell, of South Hadley, Jeannette Devine and her husband, Billy, of Chicopee; Claire Zabecki, Annette Gingras and Lorette Beaulieu and her husband, Richard, all of Holyoke; his dear brother-in-law, Kenneth Bushey of Chicopee; and his many dear nephews and nieces. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his dear brother and sisters, Roger Carrier; Dorothy Bushey and Simone Pelletier. His funeral will be held on Friday morning, January 6, 2012, beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 (funeral home will open at 8:15 a.m.) followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Committal Service with Military Honors will be at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. His family will receive friends at the funeral home in the Rose Chapel on Thursday, January 5, 2012 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family has suggested that memorial donations be made in his memory to Voluntary Service, c/o Hospice Program, 421 North Main Street, Leeds, MA 01053.
