STRATHAM, NH: Marian Caroline (Ekborg) Burgess, 99, formerly of Gloucester, died Saturday, February 25, 2012 at the Exeter Hospital following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Stanley L. Burgess who died in 1977.
Born in Gloucester on April 8, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Franz and Olga (Hagstrom) Ekborg. She had resided in Gloucester for 94 years before moving to Stratham, New Hampshire in 2006, where she resided with her daughter, Sandra, and her granddaughter Melissa and her husband Tom Ireland.
Marian loved the beach, flowers, and her great-grandchildren. She enjoyed playing with her great-granddaughter, Caroline Marian Ireland, in recent years, who was named after her. She also enjoyed her books on tape, having read the entire selection at the Stratham Library! Due to her blindness, this was her only entertainment.
In addtion to her daughter, Sandra L. Thibodeau of Stratham, NH, she is also survived by her eldest daughter, Janice and her husband Pasquale Frontierro of Gloucester, MA; two brothers, Paul Ekborg of Seminole, FL and Kenneth Ekborg of Gloucester MA, 8 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Ruth DeCoste and Alice Bentley, and three brothers Harold, Carleton and Edward Ekborg.
Her funeral services will be privately held in the Beechbrook Cemetery, W. Gloucester. There are no visiting hours. Expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 408, Salem, MA 01970.
