Eleanor B. (Kirn) Cottier, a 14 year resident of South Dennis, MA. and former 22 year resident of Shrewsbury, passed away into eternal life on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at Epoch of Harwich Nursing Home in Harwich after a lengthy illness. She was 80 years old.
Eleanor was born on June 5, 1931 in Manhattan, New York, to the late Robert E. and Eleanor B. (Schultz) Kirn. She grew up in Marymount, New York and attended schools there where she graduated from Marymount High School and Marymount College. She furthered her education where she attended Assumption College in Worcester, MA. and received her Masters Degree in Education from St. Michael's College in Vermont. Eleanor joined the Religious Order of Sacred Heart of Mary and served her Novitiate at Terrytown, New York, at Marymount College. She was stationed at Park Terrace, Bronx, New York, and also founded communities in St. Louis, Missouri and Richmond, Virginia. Eleanor later began a career in teaching and taught at Algonquin Regional High School in Northborough and retired from there in 1995. She was a member of The Massachusetts Teacher's Association.
Eleanor is the loving wife of 41 years and best friend of Edward J. Cottier. She is the beloved sister of the late Roberta Fogerty. She is the devoted aunt of Elizabeth Fogerty and Robert Fogerty both of New York.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Eleanor's Funeral on Monday, February 27, 2012 at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 a.m. Interment at The Veterans Administration National Cemetery in Bourne at 1:00 p.m. Visiting hours will be on Sunday, February 26, 2012 from 2 to 6 p.m. in the funeral home.
