Derry, NH – James J. Gilmartin, Sr. 91 died peacefully February 21 2012 at Aurora Nursing Home on Tuesday afternoon.
He was born on August 3, 1920 in Lawrence, Massachusetts. He attended St. Laurence O’toole grammar school and Lawrence High School.
In his lifetime, he worked at Wood Mill and later for the following 25 years with Massachusetts Electric Company before retiring in 1981. A former member of the Arlington social and athletic club, he was also a member of Methuen Council # 4027 Knights of Columbus. His greatest quality was his devotion and love for his family.
James was married to his beloved wife Dorothy (Maxwell) Gilmartin for 50 years until her passing in 1994.
James is survived by his son, James Gilmartin, Jr. and his daughter-inlaw Shirley (Campbell) Gilmartin of Hampstead, New Hampshire, granddaughter Jill Campbell Decesare and her husband David of Hampstead, NH, his granddaughter Allison Gilmartin D’Orlando and her husband Jason of Shirley, Massachusetts, and his grandson Kevin Gilmartin and his wife Jillian Zanetich Gilmartin of Newburyport, Massachusetts.
He is also survived by five greatgrandchildren; Vanessa, Ella, and Camren Decesare and Haylie and Logan D’Orlando. He is also survived by his wife’s sister Elanor Ratte, and her husband Roger and Sr. Ann Maxwell, SND.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Saturday morning at 9 o’clock in St. Monica’s Church Methuen, Ma. with burial to follow in Elmwood Cemetery Methuen.
Friends will be warmly received on Friday from 4-8 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home 233 Lawrence St. Methuen, Ma.
