James W. Buckingham age 55, manager of Dunes Edge Campground of Provincetown died Tuesday February 21, 2012 at his home in Truro surrounded by his loving family and friends. Jim was born in Reading, MA the son of James and Helen (Jackshaw) Buckingham. He has been living on the outer cape for the past 23 years. For the past 22 years he has been the loving partner of Miriam Collinson of Truro. Jim was a pleasure to know and inspirational to many. For several years he has experienced the challenge of living with cancer and has undergone various forms of treatment. Yet it was his interest in people and his enthusiasm that defined him. Even during lengthy periods of illness, his zest for life remained constant. He was able to find happiness in his surroundings which included life with his beloved Miriam, the time they spent together in their beautiful home, his many friends and his dog Royce. When it came to hosting a party he was completely focused. He was an avid fisherman and an excellent chef. He was also a true craftsman evident in his ability as a mason or in his woodworking and plumbing skills. For over the last 20 years he managed Dunes Edge Campground in Provincetown with his partner Miriam. One of the many gifts that life bestowed on Jim was his curiosity about and interest in people whose lives crossed his path. In that way the campground became a natural venue for his personality. It was the role of manager that he found so rewarding because it afforded him the opportunity to meet so many people and develop friendships that he cherished for many years.
Prior to life on the cape, Jim lived in East Longmeadow, MA. He then moved to Holton, Maine where he spent 10 years working as an industrial electrician. He was a member of the Provincetown Lions club and the Knights of Columbus Walther Welsh Council in Provincetown. He also volunteered for stringing the lights at the Provincetown Monument annually for several years.
