Obituary

Magane, Richard F., of Marshfield, February 20, 2012 at the age of 74. Beloved husband of the late Linda (Perry) Magane. Loving, generous father to Laura (Magane) Goyer and her husband John of Vienna, VA, Scott Magane and his wife Michele (Austin) of Wrentham and Michael Magane and his wife Susan (Rich) of Walpole. Wise Grandfather known as "Buppy" to Julia, Michael and Owen Goyer, Kali and Riley Magane and Caitlin and Jack Magane. Dear brother of Robert Magane of Ocala, FL and Mary P. Miller of Falmouth. Son of the late Daniel Edward Magane of Fitchburg, MA and Marion Julia (Connor) Magane of Jerome, Arizona. Richard was born in Medford and raised on "the south side" of Watertown. He graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in Watertown. Richard served as a Lance Corporal in The United States Marines from 1955 to 1959. He met the love of his life Linda in 1961 by serendipity, they married in 1962 and raised a family on Marlborough Rd in Waltham, Massachusetts. He was a retired Steam Engineer for M.M. Mades Co. in Somerville, MA. Richard moved to Marshfield in 1981 with his family and their dog Velvet to live by the ocean. The mutual love he, Linda and their children shared for Sunrise beach gave him comfort after she passed prematurely at 55. Richard was a world champion bird carver with a concentration in shore birds and birds of prey. In the seventies, he started college part time, with aspirations of pursuing accounting. His initial motivation to return to school was to able to assist his kids with their "new math" homework. He was an avid Red Sox fan, walker, reader, thinker and enjoyed a good political debate or game of backgammon. He was known for always having a project, and meticulously seeing it through. If he was passionate about something, EVERYONE would know about it. Most recently, he was passionate about investigating (his lifelong interest) in the ancestry of his family name Magane and its relation to the Magan name referenced in the book "Umma More" by William Magan. Above all he was devoted to his family and discovered after his wife's passing that he was an incredible, tremendously talented grandfather. He told such rich stories that people actually loved to listen to his effervescent bragging about his grandchildren. In speaking to his friends and family it becomes apparent that to the world he may have only been one person, but to many people he was the world.
