Obituary

EAST FREETOWN — Mary Margaret "Peggy" Brown, age 98, peacefully passed away on Friday, February 17, 2012, in Melrose Park, IL, under the care of her granddaughter Susan Childs. She was the wife of the late Seraphin "Sam" Brown to whom she was married to for 58 years.

Born on November 5, 1913 in Corncordia, KS, Mary was the daughter of the late William H. and Mary (Roth) Haskins and the youngest of three sisters. She lived in Stark, Maine, and Acushnet, MA, before settling into East Freetown 62 years ago.

She had worked at John Paulding Manufacturing and at the Mars Department Store as a sales clerk until her retirement. Mary enjoyed dancing, skiing and traveling in the U.S.

Mary is survived by her daughters Bette Childs of Illinois and Eleanor Chace and her husband Leonard Chace, Jr. of Lakeville, MA; also four grandchildren, Cathy, Bruce, Susan, and Margaret; six great-grandchildren and loving pet Muffy.

Her caring smile and sense of humor brightened your life. She will be missed by loving family and friends.

Visitation will take place in the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., New Bedford, MA, on Friday, February 24, 2012 from 4-7 p.m. Her funeral service will be held in the East Freetown Congregational Church on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow in the South Dartmouth Cemetery, South Dartmouth, MA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the New Bedford Whaling Museum, 18 Johnny Cake Hill, New Bedford, MA 02740
