Jean Veronica (Sunderland) Davis, 94, of Sherborn, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2012 at the Riverbend Skilled Nursing Center in South Natick.
Born in Milford, MA, the daughter of the late Clarence J. and Julia (O’Connell) Sunderland, she was the wife of the late Philip Davis to whom she was married for 61 years until his passing in 2005. She raised 4 children who will dearly miss her. They and their spouses are Edward and Toni Davis of Ashland, Vicki (Veronica) and Peter Harrington of Sheep Ranch, CA, Mary Trabulsi of Whitinsville, and Paul and Peggy Orlin-Davis of Berkeley, CA.
Jean graduated from Milford High School and Simmons College. She was a resident of Sherborn for 60 years. Mrs. Davis was active in Campfire Girls, Boy Scouts, 4-H, County Extension, and the P.T.A. in her early years in Sherborn. She worked summers as a nutritionist at Boston Lying In Hospital. As a graduate of Perceptual Education Research Center in Sherborn she was a tutor for children with handicaps. She was an active member of St. Theresa’s Parish serving as a CCD teacher, a Eucharistic minister to the elderly and on the altar commission. She was a co-founder of the St. Theresa’s Women’s Guild and served as a Friendly Visitor to the then Women’s Reformatory in Framingham. She wrote the Sherborn news for the Suburban Free Press for many years. As a senior citizen she continued to volunteer in the community and was a caller for Shore Line for the Sherborn Seniors and coordinated and delivered Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed reunions with Simmons alumni also.
Jean was a loving grandmother to Keith (Noreen), Kevin and Lisa Davis, Brian (Jennifer) and Tim Harrington, Joshua, Grace, and Judah (Candace) Trabulsi, Kaya Orlin-Davis and Andy Schoenstein. She is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren. She leaves 1 sister-in-law, Mildred Davis, 1 nephew, 2 nieces, 1 grandniece and Godchild, and several cousins.
Jean’s visiting hours will be held in St. Theresa of Lisieux Parish, 35 South Main St. Sherborn on Friday, Feb. 24, 2012 from 3-7 PM. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012 at 10:00 AM and will be followed by burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, Sherborn.
